The Big Picture – Non Farm Payroll Report May 9/08
Forexmentor.com Forex Trading Price ActionEverybody is breathing a little easier now that the non-farm payroll (NFP) numbaer came in better than expected last Friday (May 2, 2008). That said, April was the fourth month of reported job losses in the U.S. since the beginning of 2008 – the longest string of job losses since the five-month stretch in 2003. In April, 20,000 jobs were lost - far less than the previous months. April was also a good month in terms of unemployment stats. The rate fell to 5% from 5.1 in March. The big picture, of course, is the loss of some 321,000 jobs since 2008 began.
On the flip side, the economy grew ever so slightly during the first quarter, and factory orders remained sufficient to convince economists that the economy is at least treading water (even though inventories of manufactured goods appear to be climbing). Flies in the ointment are rising oil prices and strained corporate earnings. Bonds reacted negatively to last Friday’s NFP report, as traders began guessing that the Fed may put a hold on interest rate cuts. Looking at the daily commodities futures chart for the U.S. dollar, the dollar has been trending up since putting in a double bottom between March and April, and it obviously reacted well to last Friday’s NFP news.

Forex Crunch

As Forex Crunch is growing, I’m collaborating with other sites, by hosting their guest posts and by posting my content on others’ sites. After a few successful collaborations that were arranged behind the scenes, I’m now calling publicly for more guest posts, and I’m offering to write guest posts for others’ sites.
These guest posts benefit both sides. The hosting site gets more content, enriching the style and sometimes giving another angle. The author is exposed to new audiences, which will come to visit his site.
Up to now, I’ve hosted two posts by ForexTraders.com. One is titled Emotional Control - The Secret Key to El Dorado. The second is called Best hours for trading: make sure you don’t miss the opportunity. You can find them in the Guest Posts category. More guest posts are welcome!
I’ve been hosted in several sites on the web, with forex-related and also non-forex-related articles:
When Not To Trade - about 4 cases in which forex trading isn’t recommended - on Forex Magnates.
Forex Crunch Blog Review: A review of Forex Crunch and interview with me, by Hillel Fuld on Daily Forex.
Google Caffeine - A first glance of Google’s new search, on the SortFix search blog.
Hummus is on the rise - about the growing popularity of Hummus in all the world, and in surprising places as well, on the Hummus blog.
Topify - An Essential Twitter Time Saver - a post about an excellent power tool for Twitter users - on Twitip.
Twicli - Twitter Photos Improved - this time on an improved photo upload tool for Twitter, yet again on Twitip.
Israel offers solidarity after gay community center attack - an evidence from a recent event in my country, on Israelity.

forex markets

As expected, the Federal Open Markets Committee concluded its two-day meeting with a unanimous decision to keep interest rates unchanged, at a range between 0 to 0.25%. They also supplied a notion about the recovery of the economy. That was expected after the surprising fall in the unemployment rate on Friday.
The surprise was in the wording regarding the program to buy mortgage backed treasuries, or dollar printing if you wish. Note this key sentence from the statement (emphasis mine):
To promote a smooth transition in markets as these purchases of Treasury securities are completed, the Committee has decided to gradually slow the pace of these transactions and anticipates that the full amount will be purchased by the end of October.
Slowing the pace of spilling dollars means less dollars in the market. Less dollars in the market mean a stronger dollar.
And that’s the immediate response of the ==\\\: EUR/USD, which has manged its way up during the day, tumbled down by 100 pips, from 1.4230 to 1.4130 at the time of writing. GBP/USD also fell by 100 pips, from 16550 to 1.6450. Dollar bulls rage!
And note the Japanese Yen: after an initial weakening against the dollar, the Yen is now appreciating against the dollar. USD/JPY is under 96.
So, the Dollar Yen correlation is seen here at its best. What I wrote yesterday, that the FOMC Statement is an opportunity to short the Yen crosses came to life. I’m glad to say I told you

usa economy

The US Economy
The largest and still the most important market in the world, the United States of America’s economy is driven by consumers but is troubled by high debt levels. The United States of America (US or USA) has the world’s largest economy. According to the CIA World Factbook, 2007 GDP is believed to be $13.84 trillion. This is three times the size of the next largest economy, Japan, which has a GDP of $4.4 trillion. US dominance has been eroded however by the creation of the European Union common market, which has an equivalent GDP of over $13 trillion, and by the rapid growth of the BRIC economies, in particular China, which is forecast to overtake the US in size within 30 years. The recent failure in the US housing and credit markets have resulted in a slowdown in the US economy. 2007 GDP growth was estimated at 2.2% but in 2008 it is projected to be just 0.9%, down from the 10-year average of 2.8% (see chart at end of article).
google_protectAndRun("render_ads.js::google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
In common with most developed countries, Services is the key sector of the economy. In 2007, services made up 78.5% of GDP, industry 20.5% and agriculture less than 1%. Around two-thirds of the total production of the country is driven by personal consumption. Although the US is often referred to as a free market economy, this is not entirely true, since there are government regulations protecting certain sectors, notably energy and agriculture. It can be more accurately described as a ‘consumer economy’. Since the US economy is also the largest economy in the world, and the US consumer drives two thirds of the US economy, the US consumer is also a big driver of global economic activity.
The forces of supply and demand directly drive the price levels of goods and services. What to produce, and how much of it is to be produced depends on the price level fixed by the interaction of supply and demand. The role of government in the US economy is crucial when it comes to decision-making regarding monetary and fiscal policies. The federal government takes all the necessary initiatives to ensure the growth and stability of the United States. The US government makes full use of economic tools such as money supply, tax rates, and credit control, among other things, to adjust the rate of economic growth. For the most part, the US Federal Government also regulates the operations of private business concerns in order to prevent monopolies. The government renders a number of direct services in the form of providing support for national defense, monetary aid for research and development programs, and funds for highway construction & infrastructure in general.

OVERCOMING FINANCIAL CRISIS

Don’t throw good money after bad. Remember that when you spend money on the product or for materials you can’t get that back unless you sell it.

The rule here is that you never borrow money to keep the business going. It has to stand on its own two feet. Money can be injected if it is for a capital item that will over time produce improvement in profits.

Don’t gamble! if you break this rule you do so at your peril. Do a financial analysis on your personal expenses and your business. This is the starting point of any analysis. Fill in “Doc 2” with the view of completing every detail accurately that is applicable to your situation.

All answers should be a yes for each question if your business is sound. If not, follow the steps at the bottom of the financial analysis to find out what percentage of financial crisis you are in.

Step 3. Cost Cutting and Cash flow

Cost is your greatest enemy. Look at unnecessary expenses and find every way to eliminate them. This exercise should be conducted whether you or your business is in crisis or not. Determine if your advertising works. An ad must recover its costs in sales and expenses or shouldn’t do it.

A business must have access to working capital. Some ways to enable you to do this may be:

1. Overdraft from the bank
2. Credit line from the bank using your business or house as equity
3. Numerous credit cards
4. Fixed loans from banks, friends or relatives

Step 4. Managing money through your bank account (“Doc 3”)
This is the easiest way to manage a business’s cash flow and profits. The system is broken up into 4 (four) bank accounts:

1. Business account
2. Business money management (overdraft) account
3. Tax and other yearly expenses account
4. Living account

Other considerations

· Has the business been given a reasonable chance to work
· Have I cut all unnecessary costs
· Is my business expanding
· Are sales or work coming in regularly

Step 5. Too Close Or Not

I never like hearing of a business closing but sometimes it's best to close and start something else that has better possibilities.

If you've realistically cut expenses just to maintain a business and it still loses money each month and you can’t see the possibility of improving your situation, close it down and start again.

However you had better learn from what you are doing now because the experience you gained on this business will be invaluable in evaluating and operating the next one.

Summary
Even if you aren’t in crisis, cut costs. You will enjoy making a lot of money instead of just surviving. If you are in crisis act quickly and turn the ship around.

DOC 2

CHECKLIST FOR FINANCIAL BUSINESS CRISIS EVALUATION

1 Can I pay my business expenses on time when due
2 Can I pay my business expenses without touching savings
3 Can I pay my personal living expenses when required
4 Can I pay my personal living expenses without touching savings
5 Are my personal and business accounts growing
6 Do i have enough money for holidays each year
7 Do I have a debt free credit card
8 Can I put some money into investment monthly
9 Do I have a savings account that holds 10% of all monies that I earn
10 Do I have enough money saved so I can survive for 6 months without an income in case of emergency

Total number of yes checks ________ X 10 = ________Divided by 1.2 = ________

X 100% = ________ % chance of being in a crisis

If your results are 15% or less chances are you have a good business. If your results are 16% to 33% you have a very good chance of tweaking your business to set it right. However if the results are above 33% the chart below will tell you what you should consider doing in your business to rectify and bring it into the correct balance.

Percentage Action / Remedy
16% or more Make some small adjustments to your business or personal finances

33% or less Make some substantial adjustments to your business or personal finances

50% or less Make some substantial adjustments to your business and personal finances

60% or less Make drastic changes to your business, personal finances and delay all / stop spending and get advice

67% or less Make drastic changes to your business, personal finances, delay all / stop spending and get advice

76% or more Make plans to wind up your business and think seriously about your future in business and starting again

DOC 3

MANAGING MONEY THROUGH BANK ACCOUNTS

ACCOUNT NAME
1 Business Account
2 Business overdrafts Account
3 Yearly expenses Account
4 Living Account

PURPOSE
1 Business expenses
2 Working capital for cash flow purposes
3 Tax and other yearly expenses account
4 Living account

HOW IT WORKS (with every dollar you receive)
1 Every cent goes into this account
2 A cheque is drawn from account no.1 to repay any moneys that were used to perform your project and cover all expenses for the project including wages,

THIS ACCOUNT MUST NOT BE USED FOR/OR DRAWN UPON FOR ANY OTHER REASON

3 You bank your estimated tax % of the cheque you received from each job (usually it is about 20 – 30% of the profit)
4 A cheque is drawn to manage the household living

BALANCE
1 Positive
2 Always leave neutral
At the end of each month one month in arrears
3 Your work estimations should include the allowance for paying tax. This account will always be in credit.
4 You can spend this account at any time

Notes:
In an Internet business this is a little easier to do than in a traditional business. These are the things you have to ensure so that the above can happen. Firstly at the time of the job or business transaction that is accepted by a client, you go ahead and draw the cheques from the no 1 account. Hold them for banking until the customer has physically paid for the job.

Now this gives you the power to monitor the progress of the job. If you see for example that you are getting behind in time for the completion of the job, be prepared to stay and work longer on the job to keep within budget. In addition to that be on the look out to cut costs of materials and products that have not been specified in the quotation price.

In order to enable you to do this, you will have to make agreements with your employees and staff. The agreement, (which should not be negotiable when a business is in crisis) is that they will work back so that you can complete the job in the time you have quoted on. If you cannot get this commitment then consider alternative options for the offending employee’s replacement.

GROW YOUR FOREX

GLOBAL FINANCE

Amid the global financial crisis, China's forex reserve experienced a downturn in October 2008, which continued in January and February 2009. Starting from March this year, forex reserve began to grow again. Reserve increased by 177.87 billion USD in the second quarter, beating market expectations. Ding Zhijie, deputy dean of the School of Banking and Finance at the University of International Business and Economics, explained that there are three key reasons behind the surge in forex reserve: Firstly, China's foreign trade has generally maintained a favorable balance of trade, recording a cumulative surplus of 96.94 billion USD in the first six months of this year. Secondly, the value of non-US dollar assets in forex reserve has continued to increase due to the US dollar's depreciation. And thirdly, the optimistic outlook for China's overall economy has led to an inflow of international capital. Generally speaking, forex reserve stems from trade surplus, foreign direct investment (FDI) and favorable balance of international payments. It is estimated that the combination of China's trade surplus and FDI in the second quarter stood at around 50 billion USD, far less than the newly-added 177.87 billion USD forex reserve, marking a notable inflow of capital. Experts believe that it is necessary to keep a close watch on the trends of the world economy, international financial and forex markets, to adjust asset and currency portfolios in a timely and prudent manner, to ensure forex reserve's value preservation and appreciation. In respect of future trends for forex reserve, Ding believed that since China's economy is quite likely to lead the world in recovery, the inflow of international capital will continue, maintaining the trend for a rapid growth in forex reserve. Meanwhile, because the depreciation of the US dollar was a main factor in the surge of forex reserve in the second quarter, and there is not much room for further depreciation, in the near future the growth rate of forex reserve will narrow compared to the second quarter.

TIPS WHILE INVESTING

If you are a first-time property investor, be aware that investing in property involves a number of important steps, including:
Educate yourself – read books and magazines and speak to people you truly trust.
Establish a clear property investment strategy – do you want a property investment that provides sufficiently high rental returns to be self-servicing or are you chasing capital growth. Your choice of property investment strategy will dictate what kind of property you buy and where you look for it.
Thoroughly research the areas you are interested in for first property investments.
It’s a must to get a property valuation and a building inspection report before signing up to buy your first investment property.
Here are some of the pitfalls why first-time property investor’s investment properties fail to perform:
The purchase price was too high.
The property is in an area of low capital growth potential.
The property is too high maintenance.
The rent is too low.
Vacancy periods are too long or too many.
The loan taken out was structured incorrectly.
Some tax deductions are missed.
The Australian Securities and Investment Commission has outlined the following recommendations for first-time property investors before buying real estate as an investment asset:
1. Be wary of pressure selling techniques and high pressure seminarsSome sales people can be extremely persuasive and persistent.
2. What are your overall financial plans? Before investing in any asset make sure your decision fits into your overall investment strategy. If you don’t have an overall investment strategy then now is the time to develop one:
Think about what you want to achieve financially and how soon do you want to achieve it.
Set yourself goals.
3. Understand the risks involvedMake sure you are comfortable with the risks associated with a particular investment. All investments carry risks. Generally the higher the risk the higher the returns.
Do you know what the risks are in real estate? Can you sleep at night knowing this? If you can’t then perhaps you should invest in an asset with less risk.
All good financial plans will split your money up against a range of assets in order to spread the risk. Think about this as you think about investing in real estate. Will you have all your eggs in one basket if you buy a particular piece of real estate?
Remember that all types of investments have cycles of profitability and cycles of losses. These cycles can last for years. Will real estate cycles fit your financial plans?
4. Getting adviceDecide whether you need professional advice. If you’re dealing with a financial adviser then make sure they’re licensed by ASIC.
6. Do your homeworkFind out as much as possible about any investment you are making. Make sure you really understand the pros and cons of the choosing a particular investment asset. Weigh the advantages and disadvantages against your financial goals.
7. Tax and social security issuesThere may be tax issues to consider that your real estate agent may not understand. Your tax accountant could be a good place to start to check the numbers and tax issues.
8. Looking after your investment assetsLove your paperwork. Read and keep all documents you receive about your investment.
If your asset is being managed by someone else, then make sure they keep you informed of what is happening:
Insist that they give you written records and reports. Chase them up if they don’t arrive.
Ask questions if you’re not sure. Reputable investment managers will be happy to answer your questions and will expect you to take an interest in your investments.
Make sure you give all your instructions to a manager in writing. Also tell them what limits they have to act on your behalf.

INVESTOR FINANCE

Investor Finance has helped me double my portfolio within 12 months and profited at least 50% of my investment.

The best part is Investor Finance staff members are also investing in property and well trained to help other investors in achieving their g

‘We didn’t think we could ever afford to buy an investment property – we struggled to budget our weekly expenses with three teenage children. We owned a nice home though that had grown in value since we had bought it in 1995.

In 2003 we discovered the power of the equity in our family home. We realized that we didn’t need to wait until we had saved a deposit as the equity allowed us to borrow 105% of a new investment property’s value.

So we bought our first investment property late in 2003. The rental income paid for most of the loan, we managed to pay the rest and then we got a great surprise at the end of the financial year by getting some of our tax payments back from the government!

Before we knew it, we were hooked – within 3 years we had purchased 5 investment properties, in places all around Australia. We currently are organizing to buy a new home, and our equity growth has allowed us to keep our original home and turn it into an investment also.

So our property portfolio now totals 7 properties worth a combined value of $2.7 million. My husband and I often say “if only we had understood the power of equity in our own home even 5 years earlier…imagine where we would be

‘Living in QLD, renting and on not on huge wages, we thought we would never afford to buy our own home , let alone an investment property – they were all just too expensive.

But in speaking with an Investor Finance strategist they showed us how we could get into a property and that we need to think ‘outside the square’. Once I had got my head around the fact that I don’t need to live in a property or even in the same town it opened up so many more possibilities. We ended up buying our first investment property in Western Australia, finding a block of land for $45,000 and constructing for about $110,000.

Straight after completion this WA property was worth $220,000, however we left this equity alone at this stage and went into a joint venture in QLD with some friends to make some quick cash. They had the deposit & we had the income to service the loan. We did a land and construction which cost about $410,000 all up – which we turned around and sold for $485,000. (it took about a year to complete as we did a lot of the work ourselves).

The money we made from this joint venture we used as a deposit to get into our first owner occupied property in QLD (we paid $335,000 which is now worth $410,000 –with a couple of minor renovations).

Whilst waiting for the construction on our Joint Venture to be completed we unlocked the equity from our first property (which had since doubled due to the boom in WA).

Over a period of 18mths, we have now managed to unlock & use this equity to purchase a further 5 investment properties – 2 in QLD & 3 in SA. Bringing our total to 7 properties including our own Owner Occupied property, with a total value of $1,765,000. Not bad for a couple of 25year olds.’

‘Thanks Scott for all your help getting an approval for us.

We were convinced no main stream bank would touch us with our list of previous issues but you were positive, confident and tenacious enough to pull it off!

Not only did you get us an approval, but an awesome interest rate to match, we are truly impressed and grateful for what you have achieved.

Thanks also for your great communication throughout the whole process, you always made us feel like we were the most important people to you at any given time.

We cannot speak highly enough of your service look forward to giving you plenty more business in the future.’

Albert and Rachael Koster

‘We had a client who came to us with his own home and 3 investment properties. All of his properties were with the same lender. The client wanted to keep as many of these properties with that lender as possible because he was a loyal customer. However, he wanted to purchase another 3 more properties. With his current lender he could only purchase 1 more. Taking his wishes and goals into consideration, we were able to show him that by taking only 1 property to another lender that this would allow him to purchase 2 – 3 more properties. Imagine the growth of his portfolio when he chooses to do the same with his other properties!’

‘I have been working with Scott for near on 12 months and have found him to be an invaluable part of my investing team. Scott is very knowledgeable in the finance arena and having an investment mind set he quickly understands what I am trying to achieve. With this wealth of knowledge Scott has been able to source some fantastic solutions for us. I look forward to working further with Scott in the coming year.’

‘We just wanted to say a huge ‘Thank You’ for helping us buy our first home! You made the process so easy… to know you were looking after the financial side of things meant we could concentrate on everything else involved in purchasing a home!

We loved the fact that you discussed all our options and recommended a few strategies to help us pay our home off quicker… as well as discussing possibilities for the property in the future.

When we did come across a small hiccup with one bank, you straight away took charge to find us another suitable lender, without wasting any precious time.

You were such great source of enthusiasm… your excitement was infectious and even when we were stressed, you were there to pick us back up again and helped us find the excitement again.

You kept in constant contact… something a lot of people lack these days. You were there to keep us informed EVERY step of the way and you always made yourself available.

Now we have the keys and will be moving into our first home on Friday

Once again, thank you so much Scott… we couldn’t have done it without you. VIVEK

DEBT MANAGEMENT

This guide explains how debt management works and helps you decide whether it’s the right course of action for you.
Debt management can help some people with borrowing difficulties to adjust their financial repayments to enable them to keep within their monthly budget and without taking on any more borrowing.
Debt management is not right for everyone and there are some pitfalls to consider before you decide to go down this route as a means of easing your money issues.
If your financial problems are only short term and your situation is likely to improve then a debt management plan may be worth pursuing. However, don’t consider them if your ability to repay your debts is very limited and the situation is unlikely to improve over the next 12 months.

REASONS OF INSURANCE

Insurance is a defensive measure used against future conditional losses to hedge the possible risks of the future. It is a legal contract that protects a person from contingent risk of losses through financial means and provides a means for individuals and societies to handle some of the risks faced in daily life.
These contracts of insurance are called policies and are provided by insurance companies. The Insurance companies charge a regular amount from the customers, which is paid back, either in part, or entirety, to the customers in case of a definite loss. This regular amount charged from customers is called Insurance Premium
.
REASONS OF INSURANCE
Sometimes in life it is not possible to avoid the losses. For example People may become ill. They may die of illness or accidents or their homes or other property may undergo damage or theft. So in all these cases and they have to face the loss of income or savings. So insurance is a manner of financially insuring that if such an incident comes about then the loss does not affect the present well being of the person.

DOCTRINES OF INSURANCE
There should be a certain definite loss taken place at a known time, in a known place and from a known cause. Therefore the time, place and the cause of loss should be clear enough.2 The incident that represent the cause of the claim should be accidental or beyond the control of the beneficiary.3 The size of the loss must be significant from the perspective of the insured. Insurance premiums should cover both the estimated cost of losses, plus the cost of policy, regulating the losses, and providing the principal required to logically assure that the insurer would be able to reimburse claims.4 The amount of premium should be affordable.5 The possibility of loss and the cost of compensation should be calculable or estimable

TYPES OF INSURANCE

Below are some kinds of insurances.LIFE INSURANCE:
Life insurance policy insures the life of the insured. The insurance company is legally bound to provide a monetary benefit to a decedent's family or the beneficiary after the death of the policyholder. The proceeds are paid to the beneficiary either in a lump sum amount or an annuity
MEDICAL INSURANCE:Medical insurance is also called medclaim. Under this policy the insurance policy pays the amount to the insured for his health purpose. This amount covers the cost of medical treatment.
DISABILITY INSURANCE:There are two types of disability insurance. One is simple disability insurance and the other is total disability insurance. In case of simple disability insurance,a financial support on monthly basis is provided by the insurer to the policy holder if he is unable to work due to an injury or an illness. But permanent disability insurance provides the reimbursement if a person becomes permanently disabled.
GENERAL INSURANCE:It includes automobiles insurance, business insurance, property insurance etc.

Automobile insurance
In UK this insurance is called motor insurance. It compensates the loss or damage occurred to the vehicle. But in United States auto insurance policy is essential to legally operate a vehicle on public roads.
Business insurance:Business insurance protects the businesses against risks of losses and damages and compensates in case of loss
Property insurance:This type of insurance protects the property against the risks like fire, theft etc. This category also includes fire insurance, flood insurance, earthquake insurance etc

Flood Insurance:This type of insurance pays the policy holder in case of any loss or damage to the property due to flood. It protects the property against the flooding.

The Euro declined against most of its major counterparts today following deeply negative Current Account data and news that the European Central Bank would be lending a record €442 billion to banks for 12 months, and this was just the first of three auctions. The ECB’s move is somewhat contradictory to comments from ECB council member Axel Weber, who said that the central bank had “used the room for rate reductions that was created by waning inflation risks and a dramatic worsening of the economic situation.” While the auctions are certainly not the same as lowering interest rates, the amount allotted today will ultimately have much the same effects as improved liquidity should lead money market rates to decline and should provide the necessary credit for struggling businesses and consumers. Meanwhile, the euro surged against the Swiss franc today in what looks like intervention by the Swiss National Bank, though they would neither confirm nor deny the speculation. The SNB has said multiple times in the past that they would do so, as an appreciation of the Swiss franc against the euro threatens to increase deflation risks since the Euro-zone is Switzerland’s biggest trading partner. That said, EUR/CHF made an important break above a falling trendline connecting the July, August, and December 2008 highs near 1.5200 and also pushed out of its recent trading range of 1.5000-1.5235, suggesting that this could be a bit of a change in trend for the pair.

USD

The Federal Reserve kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 0.25%-0%, a record low. In recent weeks, the poisonous combination of quantitative easing with expectations for a record budget-deficit has been damaging the safe-haven status of the US dollar. However, judging by the sharp rally in USD/JPY, the FOMC statement was more bullish than had been anticipated.
